Lately I&apos;ve gotten into making micro-films, tiny abstract experimental pieces that will add up into a full short film later. I also have ideas to turn some of them into art books.

But for now, they are simply a way for me to explore bringing motion to my art. GLITCH:001 started as a bunch of digital collage images on my phone, that I ran through some glitch filters. I brought a bunch of it into After Effects to distort it all and play with the imagery a bit more.

The fun part was the sound design. I was able to use some old bleepy bloopy audio I made a few ago with some of my sound gadgets. At the time I made them into a video called Noisescapes.</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/ShlTqMw4ItA</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2026-03-16T18:23:25.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww10q00blgm43bsiso809</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/uN-4q25Gvag/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>INCIPIENCE</video:title><video:description>my debut film, shot in the quarantine summer of 2021 alone on a GoPro 7 and Lumix GH5 using homemade creative techniques. no VFG/CGI/AI or studio shooting, no artificial light. the film has been to more than 50 film festivals and won more than ten awards. subscribe to my instagram (bulovein) to see backstages and my other works! and don&apos;t miss my next underwater &quot;swamp movie&quot; Inversion

💥Generation
dir. Riccardo Fusetti

&quot;Attempting to portray, what director Riccardo Fusetti describes as, “the overwhelming feeling of human life”, Generation is an ambitious two-minute short that manages to provide a thought-provoking reflection on life, while also showcasing how AI technology can be used to good effect. A mixture of animation and dance, soundtracked by a celestial voiceover, Fusetti’s film is a welcome reminder of all you can achieve in a little over 120-seconds.&apos; - S/W Curator + Managing Editor, Rob Munday🌙✨

On a cold winter night, Lynn just wants a one-night stand. As she kisses the slightly dorky guy outside a club in Toronto, she thinks she&apos;s found it. But he lives two hours away via public transit, which makes her &quot;no strings attached&quot; encounter suddenly complicated.

As the couple get on the subway and then on a bus, what starts out as excitement gets awkward fast. But as things get real, what begins as a fleeting encounter becomes much more interesting.

This sweet, winning romantic comedy is carried by its excellent script, as well as earnest, relatable performances by its lead actors. Captured with excellent camerawork and scored with dreamy indie rock, LONG BRANCH captures what it&apos;s like to be young, dealing with less than ideal adult lives and falling in love when you least expect it.

The journey to a delicate, budding new relationship is filled with its obstacles and rocky moments, but by the film&apos;s end, you&apos;ll want to keep following this pair into the future.

We Are Never Us Short Film Directed By Shabaaz

Synopsis:

As children, Satya and Aisha shared a quiet bond before she left Hyderabad. Twenty years later, they meet again when Aisha returns briefly to the city. Now married to Priyanka, Satya reconnects with Aisha and realizes their childhood love has transformed into a gentle memory rather than a lost romance.

The story ends with Satya returning home to Priyanka, accepting that love is not always about who we once imagined being with, but about the life we choose to build.

In a time of civil war, a young warrior is given the task of delivering a treaty between two rival lords. During her journey through the woods however, she finds herself hunted by two assassins intent on intercepting her message of peace in a bid to maintain the fear, instability and violent rule of their leader.

Production Details:

The following is a test action sequence designed by Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman and Gareth Evans. It was designed in a bid to create choreography that maintains the style and rhythm set out in their prior work (The Raid 1&amp;2) while staying within the parameters of a PG-13/12A audience friendly certification.

Designed in under a week, it was shot over the course of 3 days on location in Hirwaun, WALES. The short sequence was shot using a Sony NEX-7 with only the Director and Cast on location. No other crew and cast worked on this project during the shoot.

Post production was handled in-house with Gareth Evans handling the offline edit while Fajar Yuskemal and Aria Prayogi continued their collaboration by providing an instrumental score tailor made to the project that would call upon cultural elements (the mix of Japanese and Indonesian instruments) inherent in the design of the film.

They have also undertaken the recording of ADR with the cast, foley and editing all sound FX before completing a final stereo mix.

Still recovering in the shadows, an unlikely hand presents itself to lift us into a brighter future. Artificial intelligence, embodied in our own likeness, has become our greatest ally. While most see the cooperation as promising, others hope to dismantle the human-AI relationship, in fear of losing the reins of world power.

🔥 This horror is scripted. Your goosebumps are not.

Following a strange and unsettling encounter with a black widow spider, a young virgin woman finds herself inexplicably pregnant. After the birth of her child, a shadowy cult begins to gather outside her home, drawn to the child as if by dark forces.

Director&apos;s Statement:
Learning my wife was pregnant the same week the world went into quarantine filled me with profound anxiety about bringing new life into such uncertainty. But as the pandemic unfolded, I became more terrified by something else entirely: watching ordinary people abandon critical thinking and surrender to dangerous leaders.

This voluntary submission to indoctrination became the central theme of my film. Horror has always been society&apos;s way of processing its deepest fears, and for me, the true monster wasn&apos;t a virus—it was humanity&apos;s willingness to follow charismatic figures into darkness.

&quot;Sintel&quot; is an independently produced short film, initiated by the Blender Foundation as a means to further improve and validate the free/open source 3D creation suite Blender. With initial funding provided by 1000s of donations via the internet community, it has again proven to be a viable development model for both open 3D technology as for independent animation film.
This 15 minute film has been realized in the studio of the Amsterdam Blender Institute, by an international team of artists and developers. In addition to that, several crucial technical and creative targets have been realized online, by developers and artists and teams all over the world.

In a strange, dark box lives a group of box-headed elderly humanoid creatures with roots instead of legs. Most of these creatures are sunken into a catatonic sleep, unaware of anything outside their hermetic, sealed-off world.

But one of them emerges from the crowd, stunned into consciousness. Young and growing, the creature starts to cause a joyful ruckus, but struggles against the disapproval and rancor of the rest of his box-dwellers. But then the youngster begins to fight back, looking for a way outside the box but coming against its most oppressive forces yet.

Writer/director/animator Dusan Kastelic&apos;s short animation is a surreal yet exuberant allegory about the pleasures and perils of non-conformity, being an individual and pushing through obstacles to a new level of consciousness.

The narrative takes the phrase &quot;outside the box&quot; and spins it into a deeply imaginative, hypnotic narrative that resembles a fairy tale. Not a sanitized children&apos;s version of a fairy tale, however: the film instead resembles the original European fairy stories, which were dark, psychologically complex and disquieting in their emotional violence.

The images are nightmarish, with their evocations of distorted flesh and murky colors. But the expressiveness of the creatures and attention to detail -- created in open-source 3-D software Blender -- are remarkable from a technical and emotional level, and draw in viewers with a powerful combination of gesture, sound and storytelling.

Despite the claustrophobic world portrayed in the film, there are splashes of zany humor and joy, particularly as the younger creature expresses its unbridled childlike self. The musical score and sound design by Mateja Staric go a long way to create contrast between stultifying conformity and youthful individualism, as well as keeping the narrative at a consistently engaging pace.

Despite its strange appearance, the uninhibited joyousness and high spirits of the newly emergent creature are so much like the energy of children…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/gNVqRC4mcSI</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2019-08-13T10:52:46.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww0m6007lgm43rxc1ii8q</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/KI2lsdXJQ40/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Negative Space</video:title><video:description>▶️ Submit your Short film: https://www.shortverse.com/submit

_Negative Space_
A Film by Tiny Inventions (Ru Kuwahata &amp; Max Porter)
http://www.tinyinventions.com

Negative Space is practically perfect. Like so many shorts I admire, the film incorporates multitudes of seemingly contradictory qualities: at a mere 5 minutes, there is really no wasted space, and yet it is exceedingly spare. Based off a celebrated Ron Koertge poem that clocks in at only 150 words, it allows for moments of subtlety and contemplation that are so necessary in visual storytelling—those perfectly blocked shots, held for an extra moment, that drive home the rich emotional interiority of its characters. It’s simultaneously one of the most humanistic films of recent memory, but it also stars no humans. Its stop-motion animation is expressive, detailed and grounded, and yet it has no compunction about taking off on flights of fancy, segueing via delightful transitions into fantastical asides that play with scale and setting - S/W Curator, Jason Sondhi

A LOVE STORY
Produced at The National Film and Television School
A Film by Anushka Naanayakkara
https://www.facebook.com/alovestoryNFTS/

&quot;A BAFTA-winning animation created after director Anushka Naanayakkara set herself the challenge to “tell a personal story through a surreal world”, A Love Story transports you to a strange land of fabric and fluff, as we witness the lives of two entities literally becoming entwined. The tale of a relationship, told through wool, we share the initial warmth of connection as this ethereal pair become joined together, but we’re quickly reminded how messy things can get when something poisonous enters into such a personal bond.

Narratively, A Love Story feels like it is somewhat open to interpretation. What is this destructive force that has entered the relationship? An illness? Negative thought? Another person? However you read it, Naanayakkara wasn’t making a film to make you doubt love or to dissuade you to enter relationships, in fact she was just looking to “bring comfort to audiences who have been through a similar experience”.

Like many of the films we feature on S/W, when you unravel the story of A Love Story it isn’t tackling new ideas or themes, these are age-old issues explored since the early beginnings of storytelling. The true innovation here lies in bringing this universal yarn to the screen and making it feel fresh.

The use of wool feels ideal in illustrating the bonds that c…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/db0zlcHqstQ</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2019-12-26T15:40:01.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww0jo006xgm43qj6d3lad</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/pzAZnOyMTI4/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>A Single Life</video:title><video:description>When playing a mysterious vinyl single, Pia is suddenly able to travel through her life.

&quot; The Stained Club&quot; is the multi award-winning graduation animation from students at the renowned French animation school Supinfocom Rubika. Dealing with the effects of abuse both physical and emotional, it is both a stirring tribute to childhood, and a warning to not overlook the inherent vulnerability of kids.

The Stained Club
A Film by: Melanie Lopez, Simon Boucly, Marie Ciesielski, Alice Jaunet, Chan-Stéphie Peang, Beatrice Viguier

&quot;A bittersweet animation that pairs fabulous design with emotional storytelling, The Stained Club is one of the standout animations of the year. A stirring tribute to the boundless imagination of childhood, this theme is intercut with a clear-eyed warning about the physical and psychological vulnerability of this fragile age. So while the film is immensely joyful in moments, it uses the inherent innocence of kids to camouflage the ugliness that can lurk underneath.

The graduation project of six students from the famed French school Supinfocom Rubika, the short 6min film focuses on Finn, a lonely boy who finds camaraderie with a neighborhood gang of &quot;cool kids&quot;. Finn&apos;s breathless exultation of the unique and awesome qualities of his new friends is infectious, as they play games and cause trouble in the rundown town they inhabit. Finn finds communion with his new friends because they too are &quot;stained&quot;—Finn has an eerie blue, glittery glow that emanates from areas on his skin. He doesn&apos;t know why its there, but thinks he recognizes the same in the red and purplish splotches of his friends...

The most gorgeously realized independent 3D animation in years, this project from 6 students at France&apos;s acclaimed Ecole MoPa revels in the delightful play of the frogs, only to cleverly reveal the subtext of their frolic.

GARDEN PARTY
A Film by ILLOGIC
https://www.bloompictures.tv/

&quot; On paper, the synopsis to Garden Party seems ridiculous, but in reality it’s a stroke of genius as rewarding as the gorgeous animation the film is presented in. Essentially a hilarious romp featuring a group of inquisitive, accident-prone amphibians, this 7-minute short avoids hopping down the path of saccharine sweet anthropomorphism (we see all too much in animation) by blending its delicious dark subplot into proceedings. It’s a move that really lifts this short above and beyond a lot of the other films we see in the genre.

Though the clever, unfolding plot was my own personal highlight of Garden Party, it would seem neglectful to gloss over that glorious aesthetic without mentioning it in more detail. From that meticulous opening shot of the frog gliding through the debris-filled pool to that incredibly textured frog rising from the plate of oyster shells, it’s the attention to detail here that truly impresses. It’s not only the frogs that are the carefully considered characters in the design though, the location feels as much of a player in the storyline as any of our long-legged protagonists and if anything it’s the conscientious depictions of the backgrounds that add that extra level to both the aesthetic and that compelling subplot.

Screened in the ‘Horror: Thrilling and Chilling’ programme at this year’s Encounters festival (where it was easily the stand-out film of the session), Garden Party has been impressing audiences and juries at festival worldwide t…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/bX8GaZ3O4-Q</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2019-10-10T14:00:04.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww0hn006dgm43lwoqe7tj</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/6J9I_12rTtg/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Spring of a Dancer</video:title><video:description>Spring of a Dancer is an award-winning short dance film by Damiano Fina, exploring dance as an act of resistance, ritual, and philosophical inquiry. In a world marked by war, violence, and fragile freedoms, dancing becomes a defiant gesture, a way to let flowers break through concrete.

In his short film, Spring of a Dancer, Damiano Fina invites the audience to embark on a poetic and philosophical journey in which dance becomes the language of the invisible. Today, dancing in the face of wars, the perpetuation of violence and the questioning of acquired freedoms is an act of defiance. Damiano Fina reminds us that “even concrete can be conquered by flowers&quot;.

The central question of Damiano Fina’s film Spring of a Dancer proposes a search for meaning with respect to dance. The short film offers no easy answers, but immerses us in the sacred and transformative power of dance, seeking a taste for questioning rather than answering.

Spring of a Dancer is not only a documentary to watch, but a ritual to experience. At the heart of the short film resides a reflection that connects the questions humanity has been asking since the moment it turned its gaze to the stars and the eternal motions of the heavens.

She was 66.

As a child growing up in rural Mississippi, Lusia “Lucy” Harris often stayed up past her bedtime watching her favorite N.B.A. players, dreaming of one day playing on the same courts. Reaching 6 feet 3 inches by the time she was in high school, Harris was often called “long and tall and that’s all” by her classmates — but she knew her height would be an asset on the court. And she wasn’t just tall enough to play the game. She was a rare talent who would go on to be a three-time national college champion and an Olympic silver medalist, making her a national sensation by the time she finished her college career.

For an electrifying young basketball player on the national stage, success often comes with a lucrative professional contract and brand deals — but Harris’s moment came in the 1970s, decades before the W.N.B.A. was founded, when few opportunities were available to female athletes interested in pursuing a professional career. In Ben Proudfoot&apos;s &quot; The Queen of Basketball,&quot; Harris tells the story of what happens when an unstoppable talent runs out of games to win.

Wanderers is a vision of humanity&apos;s expansion into the Solar System, based on scientific ideas and concepts of what our future in space might look like, if it ever happens. The locations depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in the Solar System, built from real photos and map data where available.
Without any apparent story, other than what you may fill in by yourself, the idea of the film is primarily to show a glimpse of the fantastic and beautiful nature that surrounds us on our neighboring worlds - and above all, how it might appear to us if we were there.
As some may notice I have borrowed ideas and concepts from science fiction authors such as Kim Stanley Robinson and Arthur C. Clarke, just to name a few. And visually, I of course owe many tips of my hat to painter Chesley Bonestell - the legendary master of space art.
More directly, with kind permission from Ann Druyan I have also borrowed the voice of astronomer and author Carl Sagan to narrate the film. The audio I used are excerpts from his own reading of his book &apos;Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space&apos; (1994, Random House, http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/159735/pale-blue-dot-by-carl-sagan/) - needless to say, a huge inspiration for this film.

A group of fighters, relentless in their quest to protect their planets will do everything in their power to emerge the victorious underdog against an enemy that appears to always be two steps ahead.

This short leaves you on edge as the future of the guardians of space grows dim in the afterburner of the spacecraft that may lead their enemy right to them. The subtle ending shows a scene so seemingly benign it’ll hit you even harder when you realize the implications of it.

More About &quot;Early to Rise&quot;:
Early to Rise opens with three low-ranking astronauts aboard the DreamBlaster spaceship, accidentally woken up from hibernation – with 90 years left on their journey. After the panic of being trapped in their hibernation pods wears off, they commit themselves to finding an escape.

Through endless weeks of bickering, boredom and a little bonding, the three accidental prisoners manage to get drunk, get laid, get a video chat, get on a game show, get briefly out of their pod, get permanently trapped back in their pod, get a random lady killed, get an order placed on Amazon and get a rescue ship eaten by a giant alien whale.

They do not, however, manage to get free.

A man named Colin sits at a crowded cafe in Marseilles, France, reading and having a coffee. He&apos;s minding his own business when he&apos;s joined by a stranger, a man named George who&apos;s an English speaker like himself.

The two begin a casual chat, both bonding over being Irish men in a foreign country -- they even are familiar with George&apos;s small hometown. But as the conversation proceeds and they find seemingly common ground, the talk takes an uneasy turn as Colin finds his life knocked off its axis.

Directed by Larry Ketang and Liam White from a script written by White, this gripping short drama has an extraordinarily simple execution. Its narrative scope is confined to a single conversation between two people in one location. Its camera setup is an elegantly composed, luminously lit single static closeup shot of Colin, held for almost the entire duration of the film.

But the minimalistic visual approach brings the preeminently skillful writing of the narrative to the fore, complete with well-paced rhythms that feel authentic and natural and an ear for subtext that proves pivotal as the story progresses. And what a narrative it turns out to be, as the conversation unfolds between Colin and George, and layers of detail unfurl.

George&apos;s story is a tragic one, told by actor Corin Silva in a mostly unseen performance that becomes increasingly powerful as the film proceeds. But the crux of the film&apos;s hypnotic power rests in actor Barry Ward&apos;s nuanced performance as Colin. The camera lingers on him for almost the entire length of his conversation with George, and Colin&apos;s reactions and dawning realization slowly build the suspense, especially as George&apos;s storytelling takes an insinuating, sly turn.

Impeccably controlled and beautifully performed, PUNCH-DRUNK -- which was longlisted for the BAFTA for best short film -- ends with a seemingly casual, conventional note of leave-taking. But under the surface is a sinister, ominous wallop, made all the more potent because of what is unsaid by bot…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/hD7XrUSyDJM</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2022-05-02T11:41:54.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww07r003tgm435ue244r0</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/NdW0OYZPTBc/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>NOPPERA</video:title><video:description>A Local Losers Production

MANICURE is a psychological thriller short film exploring the burden of body
dysmorphia, anxiety, and OCD. Inspired by Martin Scorsese&apos;s &quot; The Big Shave,&quot; it takes a mundane ritual to its worst-case extreme: a 10-minute spiral through what living with these conditions can feel like, day to day.

Tonally in conversation with Pablo Larraín&apos;s &quot;Spencer&quot; and Darren Aronofsky&apos;s &quot;Black Swan,&quot; MANICURE deviates from handheld horror in favor of sleek, precise cinematography — elegant camera movement and classical framing built on storyboards, animatics, and shot-listed floor plans.

A group of four ragtag thieves have just robbed a bank. There&apos;s a doofus, a no-nonsense tough chick, a cool and collected ring leader and a suave idiot, all of whom have just managed to come away with a large amount of money.

Cramming themselves into a Volkswagen Beetle, they rendez-vous with the local crime boss at an abandoned building. But the situation goes awry because nothing is as it seems -- and no one seems to know what is going on.

Directed by Ryan Polly from a script co-written with Matt Black, this entertaining comedy short is a rousing, energetic throwback to classic 70s and 80s crime and heist films. Rendered in a dynamic, muscular visual style that blends 70s visual grit with the high-octane camera movement of today&apos;s thrillers, it&apos;s filled with great affection for the genre, even as it sends up its conventions and cliches with a knowing, ironic eye, a goofball sense of humor and a whole lot of panache.

The storytelling begins at a high point in the action, just after a not-quite-fabulous crew of four (played by actors Eden Lee, Gunner Willis, Andre De&apos;Sean Shanks and Jacob Daniels) rob a bank and gather for the next step. But the real storyline is the unraveling of the tenuous team dynamic that made such an action possible -- a dynamic whose disintegration makes the next steps of the operation impossible unless they get back on the same page.

The characters and situation are quickly established, making clear how mismatched the band of thieves are: Sophie is direct and aggressive, Keegan the voice of strategic calm and reason, Harry is bumbling but sweet and Tommy is an idiot convinced he&apos;s a lot smoother than he is. And just as quickly, the situation falls apart, as they realize they&apos;re not what they appear. They&apos;re not thieves, but undercover cops from the FBI, CIA, DEA and LAPD. And they&apos;re at odds, just as they face their most dangerous situation yet.

Appealing to fans of heist films, cop comedies and crime capers, I BET YOU&apos;RE WONDERING HOW I GOT HERE is broad fro…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/8fyjCygRaPc</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2023-12-05T05:24:58.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww05a0035gm435kc2y17j</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/jYBYNBLTTn4/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>COFFEE SHOP NAMES</video:title><video:description>Three co-workers wait.

Three people -- Deepak, Sathya and Rakhi -- work together at the same company. They&apos;re waiting in a cafe for their drinks, all of which are under English names: Derek, Scott and Rachel.

As they wait, they chat over the perceived necessity of using English names to avoid sometimes comical mispronunciations. But as they chat about why they chose the names they did and compare these names to their real ones, they learn to embrace who they are.

Directed and written by Deepak Sethi, this witty, nimble short comedy takes the premise of &quot; What&apos;s in a name?&quot; as a springboard to explore identity and cultural heritage, and how we smooth the edges to fit into different spaces and situations. Deepak, Sathya and Rakhi are all South Indian young professionals who use English monikers at their local coffee shop, avoiding the need for baristas to call out and often mispronounce their Indian names. This is initially a strategy of practicality, helping to avoid confusion. But their chosen names have taken on a life of their own in their minds, revealing the gaps between their realities and fantasies, as well as the small but poignant ways they accommodate and sometimes minimize their cultural identities to fit in.

Shot with smoothly polished, even-toned light and cinematography, the framing of the narrative is essentially the three main characters chatting as they wait for the cafe drinks, and the smart, clever dialogue is a strong foundation to convey its themes, discussing the discomfort of having one&apos;s name butchered in public. But the fun and humor come as Deepak, Sathya and Rakhi discuss not only why they feel compelled to use the names, but what their coffee shop names mean to them, brought to life in stylized, exaggerated sequences that fit the individual fantasy.

&quot;Scott&quot; is a heroic firefighter type, though he can&apos;t quite shake off Sathya&apos;s slightly gamer geek vibe. &quot;Rachel&quot; is an avatar for Rakhi&apos;s dreams of retro-glamour and stardom, brought to life in an all-too-brief, vivid, colorful musi…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/jYBYNBLTTn4</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2026-06-26T04:03:04.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunww04g002xgm43awjxir40</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/IJwJBoI8HPk/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Into the Blue</video:title><video:description>Thirteen-year-old Julija and her mother flee their abusive household to find refuge on an idyllic Croatian island where Julija grew up. One morning, a young Black man wakes up and gets some wonderful news: he&apos;s been accepted into his local police academy, which will set him and his family up with some degree of security and help assure his future.

He carries that feeling as he goes about his day, starting with his routine morning run. During his run, he sees someone who needs help and attempts to provide some assistance at the scene.

However, his altruistic gesture goes awry, and he finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, as a promising morning takes a distinctly wrong turn.

Writer-director and lead actor Joseph Lee Anderson&apos;s sharp, pointed drama could be called a slice-of-life story in its opening moments, shot with an eye for the ordinary moments in life and a muted, naturalistic style. But this life isn&apos;t at all average, with its fractured, fractious legacies of race and violence, which play out in a tense, ultimately stunning way.

Shot in a hand-held one-shot, the short yet intense story unfurls in real-time, setting up just enough information and offering minimal yet revealing dialogue to get to know the main character. His choices and background reveal a man with aspirations and a drive to help his community and family. The storytelling is pared down, but its essentials possess touching tenderness and humanity.

The visual approach, staging and pacing work well together to throw both its main character and the audience into a tense, unsettling situation, which escalates quickly as a quiet, happy morning erupts into a cacophony of violence -- and the main character finds himself the victim of a terrible yet all too common situation in modern-day America.

THE JOG is incredibly quick-paced, agitated in style and serious in intent, and at the end viewers may find themselves struggling to process what they&apos;ve used seen as it happened so quickly. Seeing how rapidly situations like those in the film play out underscores just how easy it can happen, and how one miscalculation or misreading can pile up, to tragic e…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/7kmWTlp1Qso</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2020-05-31T10:30:09.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunwvzzr001pgm433v0a5kan</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/6eYOZNjUqp4/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>TURNING TIDE</video:title><video:description>A young boy encounters a pilot.

Ten-year-old David lives in Scotland during World War II. One day, he is outside with his mother one day when a huge fleet of German warplanes flies above him after a bombing raid, which is quickly followed by a group of British Spitfires. The awe-inspiring sight turns into a large aerial battle, and the plane-loving child follows it as one downed plane crashes nearby.

Setting out to find the enemy warplane, David witnessed a pilot escaping the wreckage, immediately running away. David follows, leading to a life-changing encounter.

Writer-director Andrew Muir&apos;s short historical drama has a visual sweep and ambition that is reminiscent of the grand old-fashioned studio pictures of Hollywood, with gleaming, beautiful light, sweeping camerawork and an almost epic sense of panorama. What&apos;s striking at first glance is how handsome the look and feel of the film is, and while the images are crisp and pristine, the film language itself seems almost nostalgic in its classicism.

But while the visuals -- accompanied by a rich orchestral score -- possess an almost old-fashioned grandeur, the narrative register focuses on a small, almost poetic encounter between the young protagonist and an enemy soldier, which changes his understanding of war. The film takes its time to set up the time period and place, situating David in history, family and community, but the heart of the film rests on a central conflict between him and the fugitive soldier, who escapes the wreckage.

This encounter is rendered with little dialogue, as the pair of characters try to understand one another&apos;s intentions and capabilities. Tension, curiosity and discovery are deftly built up and revealed in this mostly silent conversation, both in the writing and in the performances. Young actor Patrick McLoughlin captures both David&apos;s sense of curiosity and appealing innocence, and his reaction to the soldier has both an openness and a wariness that feels true to character and situation. The soldier is played in turns wit…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/6eYOZNjUqp4</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2020-10-08T09:49:31.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmunwvzzc001lgm43ixqkaip1</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/WaYsxNqtsqg/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>SAFETY</video:title><video:description>A shooter enters a school.

In a small-town elementary school, 8-year-old Michael lays on the cold gym floor, stretching with the rest of his class. But their normal routine is interrupted when the class hears the sound of a gunshot nearby.

They rush to seek refuge in their gym teacher’s office, trying to stay as quiet as possible, even as the shooter prowls the halls outside. But as he gets dangerously close, Michael senses something familiar about the shooter. He makes a daring move, altering both of their lives forever.

Written and directed by Oscar-nominated director Fabrice Joubert -- and produced by Samuel Francois Steininger -- this dramatic short tackles the incendiary subject of gun violence and school shootings with an unusually emotional intimacy and a careful craftsmanship that is haunting in its pared-down simplicity.

The storyline of the film -- adapted from the acclaimed short story by Lydia Fitzpatrick -- is distressingly familiar, both from other films and news headlines: a school is invaded by a shooter, putting the lives of children and their teachers in peril. But the creative approach eschews the traditional construction of suspense, where the film treats the narrative in a thriller-like way.

Instead, there is an agonizing patience in how clearly and closely the camera and editing tracks the experience from the POV of the children. With a lucidity that is tense in its steadiness, the cinematography and camera movement are never agitated, and the sound design is remarkably quiet, emphasizing the importance of silence to evade detection. The performances by the cast -- which includes Rob Nagle, Garrison Griffith, Gattlin Griffith and Marie Moute -- are also collectively muted, pulling emotion within from fear rather than outwardly from panic.

In a strange way, the lack of sensationalism in the filmmaking gives the events happening onscreen both an air of unreality and quiet ordinariness. A listless writer has arrived at a vacation home in upstate New York, in hopes of igniting a creative spark and getting some work done on a project. The home isn&apos;t his: it belongs to another family, including two sisters, Tess and Gia, who watch as James settles in for his mini-retreat.

As James procrastinates, watches TV and occasionally pecks away at his computer, romantic Tess begins to fall in love with him. But Gia has seen it all before and must remind her sister why there&apos;s no chance of success when it comes to romance. And in doing so, they pontificate on the lives they could have led if things were different and slowly come to accept the truth of what&apos;s in front of them.

Directed by Jordan Sommerlad and written by Cory Stonebrook (who also appears in the role of James), this short drama is a lovely portrait of two sisters who are also each other&apos;s closest companions, with all the intimacy and difficulty that implies. It&apos;s also a gently philosophical meditation on the life unlived, full of what-ifs and could-have-beens, handled with both wit and a heart-tugging wistfulness.

Shot with a naturalism that&apos;s both subtle and delicate, the film has an ambling, sometimes contemplative pace, unfurling its circumstances and characters with an unhurried gentleness. But the storytelling is not without its spark or rhythm, thanks to the loving but sometimes acerbic relationship between the sisters. They have different personalities and temperaments -- Gia is sharp and cynical while Tess is dreamier and romantic -- and they spar and snark with one another as siblings often do. But they are close, and in many ways, they have no choice but to be best friends.

The thoughtful writing reveals exactly who Gia and Tess are, but the revelation isn&apos;t handled as a clever &quot;a-ha&quot; moment that jolts the viewer. Instead, it allows it to unfold more quietly. The crux of the story is their one-sided relationship with the new occupant of their home, which offers Tess an outlet for romantic yearning. Last year during the covid pandemic we couldn’t travel far in Europe. But after seeing some pictures of the beautiful lavender fields in Valensole, in Provence - France we just had to see them for ourselves. So we embarked on a journey to southern France!
We explored the stunning city of Nice on the Cote d&apos;Azur, with its crystal-clear waters, charming old town, and vibrant markets.
And also to the breathtaking lavender fields of Valensole, where we were surrounded by vibrant purple hues and the sweet aroma of lavender.

Once upon a time, Chris and Jennifer dated. But then Jennifer got pregnant, and now she and Jack co-parent a little girl together. But one day, Chris asks Jennifer to marry him, so they can make it official. But Jennifer drops a bombshell: Chris may not be the father of the daughter. And with no better options, she may move out of state with her daughter.

Desperate to keep them nearby, Chris convinces Jennifer to find the real father and get a child support settlement that will allow them to stay. But getting the DNA of other men proves trickier than expected, propelling them on an odyssey that&apos;s equal parts comical and touching -- and just a tad gross! -- to find out just who the father is.

Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning BAND OF BROTHERS writer and producer Erik Bork makes his directing debut in this charming, heartfelt relationship dramedy that goes surprisingly deep -- and makes a few unexpected detours -- to look at just what bonds and connects families and loved ones together.

As expected, the writing is superlative, with an ear for wry, befuddled dialogue and a sensitivity to the real emotional dilemmas that the characters are grappling with. Balancing the emotional drama with the moments of comedy is a high-wire act, but the short does it well, whether it&apos;s in the tenor of the measured storytelling or the muted, warm visuals, which have an earthy, 70s feel that suits an almost shambolic narrative. Even the toilet humor of the film is on the muted side, and though it&apos;s played for laughs, it also is an important part of the plot.

The excellent performances of the two leads, played by actors Jack De Sena and Rome Shahanloo, also suit the understated approach, offering up flickers of genuine vulnerability, doubt and uncertainty that tempers the scatalogically-inclined turn the plot takes. Even when genuinely hilarious moments bubble up -- many of them courtesy of actor Anil Margsahayam as a lab technician -- we always are in touch with what&apos;s at stake for Chris and Jennife…</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.youtube.com/embed/lK_NK5cVkKs</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2019-09-27T11:34:29.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://www.shortmox.com/watch/cmpsf0ryk002cslhznvxsdjh6</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i.ytimg.com/vi/F62KXQCiC-s/maxresdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Who&apos;s There?</video:title><video:description>Subscribe to ALTER on YouTube: https://goo.gl/LnXRC3

Ruthlessly ambitious business executive Pete is on his way to an important meeting when he realizes he&apos;s running late. As he pops into the restroom, he&apos;s rude on the phone to his co-worker and he&apos;s short-tempered with the janitor, revealing cut-throat selfishness and entitlement.

When he&apos;s in the stall, he sees a strange message written on the toilet paper and then someone peeking into his stall. Investigating the sounds of a scuffle outside, he realizes he&apos;s been locked into the bathroom -- and realizes the person peeking into his stall was himself. And he can&apos;t escape... until he&apos;s unlocked to the temporal paradox he&apos;s found himself in. But doing that means confronting his worst enemy: himself.

Written and directed by Matt Black, this sci-fi short is essentially a puzzle operating on two levels: there&apos;s the straightening of twisted timelines as a man tries to escape the time loop he&apos;s found himself, which brings kinetic energy and suspense to the storytelling. But there&apos;s also an existential puzzle, as Pete must work with his past and future selves to figure it all out. But when you&apos;re an arrogant, selfish jerk, that process is a lot harder.

Shot with a lurid moodiness like a corporate thriller and scored with an anxious, dissonant electronic score, the film still finds a lot of fun and even insight in the set-up. Placing a time loop in a public restroom builds some quirkiness into the narrative from the beginning and contours the concept perfectly for the short format. And there&apos;s also some biting humor as Pete comes up against his own self, which he does again and again as he tries to figure out the paradox he&apos;s in but is hindered by his blowhard attitude.

Time traveling is a complicated idea and the fast pace and sharp dialogue lay it out quickly, but the mechanics don&apos;t have to be completely grasped to enjoy the film.
