An innovative one-minute experimental film that challenges conventional storytelling.
Synopsis
What can truly be said in just 60 seconds? “Culture” is a one-minute experimental short film written, directed, and performed by independent filmmaker Ari Gold, created under radical filmmaking rules inspired by his Dogma 99 manifesto. Shot in a single take with no cuts, no dialogue, no rehearsals, and only live sound, the film becomes a raw cinematic performance that challenges how we think about storytelling and the language of cinema. ➡️ Within exactly one minute, Ari Gold pushes physical performance and visual symbolism to the limit. With the camera completely still, the actor’s body becomes the narrative itself, turning movement, color, and expression into a commentary on movie violence and the audience’s fascination with spectacle. These strict constraints transform the film into both a performance piece and a cinematic essay, showing how powerful storytelling can emerge from extreme limitations. Despite its minimal length, “Culture” received international recognition, winning Best Narrative Short at the South by Southwest Film Festival and the Popular Jury Award at the São Paulo International Short Film Festival. Critics have described the film as a bold cinematic experiment and a sharp reflection on movie culture. ➡️ Praised by outlets like Film Threat, The New York Times, Ain’t It Cool News, and The Denver Post, the film has sparked conversations about how much meaning can fit into a single uninterrupted moment of cinema. Sometimes the shortest films invite the longest discussions. ✔️ Read more about “Culture” and the story behind the film: https://arigoldfilms.substack.com/p/culture-by-ari-gold?utm_source=youtube 🌐 Visit the official website: https://www.arigoldfilms.com/ 💬 After watching this one-minute film, what do you think Ari Gold is really saying about movie culture and our fascination with on-screen violence? This channel is where I share my films, creative experiments, and what I’ve learned from years of working in independent filmmaking. I’m a filmmaker, musician, and writer whose work often blends indie cinema, music, poetry, and personal storytelling. My films have screened at festivals such as Sundance, SXSW, and Karlovy Vary, and over the years I’ve been fortunate to receive a Student Academy Award, a Guinness World Record for air-drumming, and the slightly confusing title of High Times Stoner of the Year (even though I don’t smoke). ➡️ Some of my films include the cult comedy “Adventures of Power,” starring Michael McKean and Jane Lynch, and the jazz-inspired indie drama “The Song of Sway Lake,” starring Rory Culkin and Robert Sheehan. My newest project, “Brother Verses Brother,” is a one-shot improvised musical executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola, starring my brother, my father, and me. I’m also working on “Helicopter,” a documentary connected to a psychomagic ritual created by filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky. Beyond sharing my films, this channel is also about the creative process behind filmmaking. I talk about developing stories, working with small budgets, finding unique locations, and navigating the long and often unpredictable road of making independent movies. My goal is to share practical insights from real productions while exploring how personal stories can grow into cinematic experiences. If you’re interested in independent film, creative storytelling, experimental cinema, and the realities of building movies from the ground up, you’ll feel at home here. 🎬 Subscribe to the channel and activate notifications. --------------- 📲 Follow me on social media!
